MOM Full Form

What Is The Full Form Of MOM?

MOM stands for “Mission of Mars” or “Mars Orbiter Mission” which is an Indian interplanetary mission to Mars. The spacecraft was launched on November 5, 2013 by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and reached Mars orbit on September 24, 2014. The mission’s objectives were to demonstrate India’s capability to send a spacecraft to Mars, as well as to conduct scientific research on the planet’s surface, geology, and atmosphere.

The spacecraft was equipped with five scientific instruments to conduct various experiments. One of the main objectives was to search for signs of methane, a gas that could potentially be a sign of life on Mars. The spacecraft also conducted experiments to study the planet’s surface and mineral composition, as well as its atmosphere.

The mission was a major achievement for ISRO, making India the first Asian nation to reach Mars and the fourth space agency in the world to do so, after NASA, the European Space Agency and the Soviet space program. The spacecraft was operated for over six years, collecting valuable data and providing new insights into the planet.

In addition to its scientific objectives, the mission also had technological objectives, such as testing of new technologies that are critical for interplanetary missions. These include autonomous features, deep-space communication, and propulsion systems.

The MOM mission was a relatively low-cost mission, costing around $74 million, compared to similar missions by other space agencies. This was a remarkable achievement, and it demonstrated the capabilities and potential of India’s space program. It has paved the way for future interplanetary missions, and it has inspired a new generation of scientists and engineers to pursue careers in space research and exploration.
