Over 2200 students are enrolled in Salesian College (SC), a government-recognized, minority educational establishment of the Catholic Church managed by the Salesian of Don Bosco, Kolkata Province, under the (NBU).
In 1933, SC was founded in Shillong before moving to Sonada in 1938. Sections 2(f) & 12 (B) of the 1956 UGC Act govern it. Affiliation with the Calcutta University was granted to SC for its I.A. program in 1935, and then for its BA Courses in English, History, and Latin in 1948, followed in 1950 by its BA Course in Economics.
NBU's connection with Calcutta University was transferred in 1962, making it one of the foundation institutions of the university. After receiving BA Honors in English and History from SC in 1970 and 1979, Education and Philosophy were added as B.A. courses.
Accreditation was granted for the Education Honors program in 2006. C-DIT DAC's and ADIT courses were offered in 2002, while NBU offered its Application Software Certificate Course in 2004.
