Govt. Medical College & Hospital was established in the year 1991, situated at Chandigarh, also known as GMCH Chandigarh. It has been approved by MCI and it secured 25^th position for medical by NIRF, ranked 1th for Medical by India today, and ranked 19^th for medical by the week in the year 2020. The college offers a 5-year MBBS degree under various courses like B.Sc, M.Sc, MD, and MS across specializations include Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Opthalmology, Nursing, Forensic Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and among others.

Admission to courses is based on the entrance exam like NEET-UG and NEET PG. Selection for the B.Sc program is based on the scores of GCET obtain by candidates. The college offers 26 courses across five streams namely Medical, Science, Dental, Nursing, and Paramedical. It is famous for its campus in which numerous facilities are available such as Auditorium, Library facility, Healthcare facility, Accommodation facility, and others.
